October Update
Development
Currently, we have two spikes that explore how we can fork Rails, rename
constants like Rails::Application or ActionController::Base and still allow
people to use the gems they know and like. In our experiment, migrating an
existing Rails application works by installing a gem and then running a
generator.
The first release of Mosscap will be version 8.1.4. based on the same version from Rails. We will discuss which parts of Rails 8.2 we will also release in Mosscap after the release.
Like rails, our mosscap gem will not contain any code but only have
dependencies. The dependencies will be exactly the initial scope of our fork:
mosscap-core: Our fork ofrailtiesmosscap-http: Our fork ofactionpackmosscap-model: Our fork ofactivemodelmosscap-record: Our fork ofactiverecordmosscap-view: Our fork ofactionview
Each of the gems will be forked as an individual repository on Codeberg. We will do that using git-filter-repo to keep the history.
Get Involved
After creating these forks, there’s plenty more to do (publishing to gem.coop and rubygems.org, setting up continuous integration, writing documentation, etc). If you’d like to join in, get involved
